I don't know who first called prostitution "the world's oldest profession". Maybe Xaviera Hollander, or the Mayflower Madam, or Mae West? Or maybe Picasso, whose idea of a perfect Sunday was "Mass in the morning, a bullfight in the afternoon, and a whorehouse in the evening". No WONDER his art was lousy. Anyway, that is obviously a mistaken notion. FARMING is the world's oldest profession. According to Genesis, Adam and Eve tilled the ground together.

The spread of prostitution? What exactly is commonly referred to as "the world's oldest profession'?

Your claim, as Artie Johnson would say, is "Veeeeery interesting.

But stupid."

I can easily believe that prostitutes catered to the Crusader military units. I'm surprised at the idea that Mother Church facilitated the management of prostitution, but then prostitution in Scripture is more low-class than depraved or sinful.

The oldest profession started with the crusades? Who knew?
BTW it is my strong preference that you stop with the photo of a page of print. It strains my eyes and I dislike it intensely.
You notice those posts almost never have comments?

Hookers go where men go. Why this is news is beyond me.

Hookers only showed up during the Civil War. They were called other things prior to that.

Well according to that passage the Crusades and the Church played fairly large roles in facilitating it. Pretty fascinating though, I had no idea of that history.
