Regarding power and powerlessness … http://thelastpsychiatrist.com/2013/01/no_self-respecting_woman_would.html
What world does David Mamet live in?
In Secret World! That’s where he gets the Secret Knowledge.
OK guys which one? Betty or Veronica?
One vote for Betty here.
Both. I don’t think they would have a problem with that arrangement.
Veronica, until that archetype was destroyed by Kim Kardashian.
While David Mamet is a highly talented man, and I welcome his recent public conversion to a conservative world view, he doesn’t know squat about Betty and Veronica. For that matter, if he supposes that the way a woman feels about a man is a matter of indifference to the man, he had better stick to writing about what he knows about. Steak knives, I think it was. Selling condos.
The Secret Knowledge is a hell of a read. Such talent in the hands of a committed realist, a now not-so-new conservative. He figured it out in spades.
There were a thousand quotes PJ’s could have lifted. Because this one is lifted out of context, someone on this board could fall victim to a serious misimpression, that Mamut is not a good writer or a deep thinker; he is both, and to an extraordinary degree. Check out his example of a plane in trouble (you are on it) and you have two choices, two countries that you can choose to land in, and you have about 30 seconds to make your decision…
Yeah, I’ll go on the hook and give the book a plug. Not just secret knowledge but timeless knowledge as well. You’ll want it in hardcover, so you can give it to your kids.
