GOOD ADVICE: ‘Give yourself a break’ is bad advice: Do difficult things!

Jake wonders why liberal arts colleges “center” their black students by “encouraging them to experience college as a source of ‘racial battle fatigue’.”

I envision kids watching the The Little Engine That Couldn’t on their phones: “I think I can’t. I think I can’t. It’s too hard. Climbing mountains is a vestige of white patriarchy! Look how brave I am for being able to say that I can’t! I thought I couldn’t!”

American culture treats “successful people like they somehow cheated to get there and poor people as if they’re noble by virtue of being poor,” writes John Hawkins, in another response to Vivek Ramaswamy’s “culture of mediocrity” critique.

Parents should be pushier, he writes. Kids aren’t “pieces of glass that will break if they’re pushed too hard.”

Kids usually live up to — or down to — expectations. “The soft bigotry of low expectations” was one of George W Bush’s few memorable (and correct) phrases and of course, the Left hated him for it.

Just a rant:
LOOKING BACK (A bit long): I’ve studied an awful lot of history in getting a degree in political philosphy, and that through the very left-leaning CUNY school system. On reflection, it has become clear to me that anyone who uses the word “insurrection” descibing the idiocy of Jan. 6 has no idea what they are talking about.

Was it a riot? Yep. Were many of the particpants dopes? Yep. But read how John Adams, Robespierre, Lenin, Mao and Castro pulled off genuine “revolutions” and you’ll see that mobbing a capitol building isn’t even close. You need to control central information and transportation hubs, get the army to back you, and bring weapons.

None of that happened on J6. If you use the word “insurrection” to describe J6: You have zero credibility.

SHE LEFT OUT “RUTHLESSLY YET CLUMSILY EXECUTED,” BUT, YEAH:

Trudeau won’t be missed but it remains to be seen whether Canadians can go MCGA.

DON’T BLOW IT:

As Elon Musk said, “It’s now or never.”

KRUISER’S MORNING BRIEFING: Canada’s Commie Soy Boy Trudeau Slithers Off to Ignominy. “The timing of Trudeau’s announcement is delicious. Democrats are already weeping and gnashing their teeth because Trump is about to be inaugurated. The proggie loons here in the United States were Trudeau’s biggest fan club, so his departure has got to be hitting them pretty hard. The Dems’ flying monkeys in the mainstream media did more to create and perpetuate the myth of Justin Trudeau the studly feminist than their counterparts up north.”

CHECKBOOK IN HAND? Donald Trump Jr takes personal trip to Greenland after president-elect floats purchasing country.

Donald Trump Jr. is expected to travel to Greenland Tuesday after his father, President-elect Trump, signaled an interest in U.S. “ownership and control” of the country, Fox News Digital has learned.

A source familiar with Trump Jr.’s plans told Fox News Digital that the president-elect’s son, who is traveling in a personal capacity, is set to arrive in Nuuk, Greenland, midday Tuesday for meetings with locals, to visit cultural sites and more.

“As someone who has traveled to some fascinating places across the globe as an outdoorsman, I’m excited to stop into Greenland for a little bit of fun this week,” Donald Trump Jr. told Fox News Digital.

A source familiar told Fox News Digital that Trump Jr. is “popping in for a quick day-long trip to shoot some fun video content for podcasting.”

Meanwhile, Trump Sr: “Many people in Canada LOVE being the 51st State.”

Maybe we could let Alberta in on a trial basis. Maybe.

ALYSSIA FINLEY IN THE WSJ: No, Moderate Drinking Won’t Give You Cancer: As with his other work, the surgeon general’s report is light on facts, heavy on expanding government.

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy has done more to politicize science and erode trust in public-health leaders than anyone other than Anthony Fauci. Dr. Murthy was at it again on Friday with a headline-grabbing report that recommends alcohol be distributed with cancer warnings.

The report warns that, for some cancers, “evidence shows that this risk may start to increase around one or fewer drinks per day.” Note the operative word, may. The link between heavy drinking and throat and mouth cancer is well-established—but not for moderate consumption.

Two weeks earlier the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine released a congressionally mandated review of the recent evidence on the health effects of moderate drinking, or up to one drink a day for women and two for men. Its more than 200 pages of findings run counter to Dr. Murthy’s 22-page report, though they got scant attention in the press.

The academies found insufficient evidence to support a link between moderate drinking and oral, pharyngeal, esophageal, laryngeal and other cancers. It did find a slightly higher risk of breast cancer with moderate drinking but also a lower risk of death generally and from cardiovascular disease specifically compared with never drinking.

No matter. Dr. Murthy claims that “alcohol use,” not only abuse, is a “leading preventable cause of cancer in the United States, contributing to nearly 100,000 cancer cases and about 20,000 cancer deaths each year.” This estimate is based on models of associations from cherry-picked observational studies. But even the report partially attributes only 17% of these estimated deaths to moderate drinking. Of the 609,820 cancer deaths in 2023, this would mean moderate drinking contributed to 3,400, or about 0.6%. Dr. Murthy’s claims about alcohol’s cancer risks are misleading but typical of his reports, which are intended to drive a political agenda.

Let’s review the roll.

He’s continuing in the footsteps of LBJ’s surgeon general, who issued a cholesterol warning about eggs at LBJ’s request, because LBJ was taking a political hit from food price inflation and wanted to push the price of eggs down.
