2014: A Box Canyon Odyssey

March 15th, 2014 - 9:07 am

“Right now, Democrats can’t figure out how to get away from Obamacare, so they are digging around desperately for something off-topic to discuss,” [Republican strategist Brad] Todd said. “I had the same emotion in 2006 when it was obvious the war was going to beat us but we weren’t willing to run against the war that we believed in. There is never any magic trick to get out of this box when your party is on the wrong side of the only issue voters care about.”

As spotted by Moe Lane, who has further thoughts on the subject. As to how 2014 might play out for the box canyon left in the Senate, he’s got you covered there as well.

While I strongly disagree with the assessment we were "on the wrong side" of the Iraq issue-- we may have been on the outvoted side of the 2006 voter's _opinion_ of Iraq -- Brad Todd makes a compelling point about the mirror image similarities of 2006 and 2014.

There's one huge difference Todd doesn't address, however, between the Iraq War and Obamacare: only about 0.4% of Americans had personal skin the Iraq conflict (actual service over there); nearly 100% of Americans have personal skin in the Obamacare debacle.

It's one thing to get grumpy about politicians because of constant daily harping by the media. It's other thing when your own personal health plan (and that of your family's) gets cancelled and you get stuck with inferior care with nose-bleed premiums.

To quote Machiavelli:

"But when it is necessary for him to proceed against the life of someone, he must do it on proper justification and for manifest cause, but above all things he must keep his hands off the property of others, because men more quickly forget the death of their father than the loss of their patrimony."

Yet another book of the Western Civilization canon Obama seems not to have ever read.

A commenter at the link remarks "Republicans lost their way" in 2006, then goes on to blame the media. Sorry, the media had a role, but The Stupid Party doesn't need the media when it comes to losing. Here's a link to May 2006 that might help complete the picture. Bonus when you click to the article "Bite Me GOP", a printable item you can remit to the RNC when they send you their next begging form letter.

Now, what's changed with the GOP since 2006, 2008, and 2012? Answer: It's more corrupt. If put back in power, we'll get Shamnesty, more spending, and more domestic spying. GOP Inc. will take its turn at weaponizing the IRS against conservatives.

That's IF they regain power, but don't count on it. American voters have already proven they'll re-elect a sexual predator who perjures himself while occupying the White House. They'll re-elect a Marxist who crushes them in debt and laughs at the Constitution, while supporting Islamic extremists. So don't get your hopes up about 2014, let alone 2016 and beyond.
