Ken Shepherd of Newsbusters spots MSNBC’s Chris Matthews favorably comparing President Obama to fellow Nobel winner Mikhail Gorbachev:

No wonder why Chris Matthews is always positively tingly over Obama. It’s just a neverending Gorbasm with a different leftist object of lust.

Today on “Hardball,” Matthews favorably compared the president to former Soviet dictator and Nobel Peace Prize recipient Mikhail Gorbachev (MP3 audio available here):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, host: When Gorbachev became chairman of the [Communist] Party and ran, took over Russia [sic], a lot of us in this country said, this guy, by his very fact of coming to office has so changed Soviet history, Communist history. I love the guy. Because he came in there and knocked off that whole history of Andropov and Stalin and all those bums. He comes in there as an open door.

Bill Kristol adds, “Mikhail Gorbachev won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1990. A year later, he was out of power and the Soviet Union had dissolved”:

I don’t mean to compare Barack Obama to Gorbachev, who was, whatever his faults, a truly historic and courageous figure. But let’s hope the parallel extends this far: that a year from now the Democrats suffer a major electoral repudiation, and that the New Liberalism goes the way of Reform Communism. And that, beginning in 2013, Obama will have lots of free time to spend hobnobbing with Gorbachev on the international celebrity circuit.

And as Kristol noted on Fox News, Bill Clinton is now the only Democratic President in 40 years not to win the Nobel. (Even his veep scored one.)

At Gorbachev recognized his economic situation & tried to change direction, whereas Obama & the Democratic Congress actually plow on through!

If Barack Obama loses in 2012 despite getting all the love of the world’s intellectual elites, his bitterness towards America in general and Red State voters in particular is going to make Jimmy Carter’s last 29 years look like Mr. Sunshine by comparison.

  3. Note to Chris (in whose honor I name my blog: http://chrismathewsotherleg.blogspot.com ) Mikhail Gorbachev was not chairman but General Secratary (GenSek) of the CPUSSR and subsequently President of the Soviet Union. It was Stalin who turned the GenSek job into the all-powerful position it became.
