Halle Berry to Pay Child Support of $16,000 a Month

June 10th, 2014 - 5:06 am

A reader alerted me (thanks) that Halle Berry has been ordered to pay child support to her ex-boyfriend:

A judge has approved a settlement between Halle Berry and her ex-boyfriend over child support payments for their 6-year-old daughter.

The agreement approved by Superior Court Judge Scott Gordon on May 30 calls for Berry to pay ex-boyfriend Gabriel Aubry $16,000 a month or nearly $200,000 a year to support their daughter, Nahla. The Oscar-winning actress will also pay for their daughter’s tuition, but the former couple will split health care expenses.

The order also calls for Berry to pay her ex-boyfriend a retroactive payment of $115,000 and $300,000 to his attorneys to cover the costs of their custody dispute.

Berry and Aubry, a model, were involved in a custody dispute in 2012, and a judge blocked her from moving their daughter to France.

Gordon’s order only affects child support payments.

While big custody and child support cases like this make headlines, the truth is that women still pay a small percentage of child support. I was recently watching The Independents, a Fox business show about the “War on Men,” and Jill Filipovic of the Feministe blog said that women are now paying a great deal of the alimony and child support in the nation. This is hardly true. It may seem like it as the media and women complain if they have to pony up the cash, but men still pay the majority of child support and women rarely pay alimony.

What do you think? Is the settlement in the Berry case fair or unfair?

After reading about this sage for all these years, my take is Halle was looking for a good looking guy to give her a good looking baby, then go away. Unfortunately Aubry wanted to actually be a part of his little girl's life, and that's when the legal battle started.
Sorry Halle, its his kid too.

Only 16 k a month (tax free to the guy)? She's getting a deal! Lots of men (singer Sean Combs and baseball player Darryl Strawberry used to be two of them) are paying $30 k a month per child (tax free to Cupcake sitting at home).

They should at least call it what it is: alimony and child support, because a good chunk is also going to support the custodial parent's lifestyle.

It's just as silly when a woman has to pay an excessive amount that is clearly not all going to the child. I guess a few men are starting to get into this racket now.

It is interesting how feminists seem to lament women paying child support and alimony. They seem to yearn for the time when women's property became her husband's upon marriage. Alimony is related to the wife's dower from a husband's estate.

Child support, interesting enough, as long ago as 1856, was the responsibility of the guilty party in a divorce and the children raised by the innocent party.

Seems feminists want all the benefits of marriage but none of the responsibilities of that contract.

Who is actually raising the child? You know: the parent who changed her diapers, sits up with her when she had an earache, helped her put on her clothing, and other scut type jobs that are the essense of parenthood? Or is the nanny doing the work while two narcissists are squabbling over loot?

I'm too old to understand the new rules of the hookup culture, they were never married. Why is there any money going to either party?

This is unfair for two reasons. First, I did not get a chance to father a baby with Halle Berry. Second, she will not be paying me $16,000 a month

Is this guy able to work? It doesn't take $16k a month to raise a child. If he's able-bodied, he should be awarded the amount necessary for food, modest shelter, and child care, and any excess, if they still want her to pay it, should be paid into a trust fund for the child administered by a third party. If he can't work, pay him what he might get on SSDI in addition to the child's allowance, and still put the excess into a trust fund for the kid.

A gigolo by any other name.

Is it fair?

Is it fair that two childish a$$holes selfishly brought a third child into the world without the stability of marriage?

Is it fair that child will likely see little of one parent or the other through their formative years?

Is it fair the child will be used as a tool of vengeance against one parent or the other, unable to comprehend what's really happening or why?

Is it fair that this child won't grow up in an intact, two-parent family, seeing how a loving man treats his woman, and vice versa?

Screw both these moron parents and how unfair any of this to either of them. I'm so sad for their child it makes me sick.

How about the a$$holes that bring a child into a marriage having noting between their ears, only others to lead them around by the nose?

Millionaire pays child support. Sounds fair to me. I don't know about the father's financial situation, but I doubt that he's as well-off as Halle and I doubt that this amount will impoverish La Berry.
