"San Andreas:" My Kind of Fault

I watched San Andreas on pay per view last weekend. I was actually planning to see it when it was in the theaters but the reviews were so lukewarm, I let them talk me out of it. My bad. It’s fun on toast! Spectacular SFX. Likable actors. Wonderful set pieces. All there. Dumb? Sure. But a genuine action movie delight, with the always-watchable Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, saving people from an earthquake that nearly takes out the entire west coast.

I can’t believe this gets only 50 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. I mean, listen to this summary of the reviews:

San Andreas has a great cast and outstanding special effects, but amidst all the senses-shattering destruction, the movie’s characters and plot prove less than structurally sound.

Who cares? It’s a big action movie! It’s big! It has action! It’s a movie! What are we comparing it to? Hamlet? Relax and pass a happy couple of hours.

Look at it this way: Any movie in which Los Angeles and San Francisco are destroyed and then people say the Lord’s Prayer and unfurl an American flag…  how bad can it be?

Really, for a mindless good time: San Andreas. Excellent goofy fun.

Oh, and also, there’s a great cover of the Mamas and Papas California Dreamin’ by Sia:
