Because They Know the Media Will Lie

October 3rd, 2013 - 7:25 am

At this point, CNN must have the same ratings as the lady who tells you not to leave your bags unattended, because the only time anyone ever watches them is in the airport. But I was in some airports this week, and so I happened to catch some of CNN’s coverage of the government shutdown. And it’s dishonest — by which I mean, it’s not news, it’s Democrat propaganda. The interviews with Republicans are hostile and challenging. The interviews with Democrats are opportunities to attack Republicans. At one point, I saw one reporter lament the fact that some Republicans could act with impunity because they have safe seats — as if Nancy Pelosi from San Francisco weren’t sitting in the safest seat in the most leftist district in the country.

But this — which is happening at the networks and the New York Times as well — does throw a light on President Obama’s strategy. He wants the debt ceiling raised without conditions — something that never happens. He feels the GOP has made a tactical error by pushing the Obamacare defunding campaign over the brink of shutdown and so now he refuses to negotiate, using the threat of U.S. default as a pressure point.

And he can do this because he knows the media will lie. Obama and the Democrats will refuse to negotiate — and the media will say Republicans are intransigent. Republicans will offer to fund the default and Democrats will refuse — and the media will say Republicans are reckless. Republicans may even cave on Obamacare but still want conditions on the debt ceiling — and when Obama turns them down, oh, how wrongheaded will Republicans be then?

Our news media speak slavish obedience to power, and feel right proud when power takes advantage of it to become even more powerful. Really, for shame.

Actually he wasn't reelected on a referendum of Obamacare -- Romney's nomination took that off the table. He was reelected on "Osama is Dead" - "GM is alive" - "Al Queda is on the run". The last of which was shown to be false one week later which was the spark that ignited the "video" being respsonsible for Benghazi meme.

As for the "hardline" positions, run your home the way the government is running the government; i.e, rack up 10x more debt than you make and see how long it will be before you sink. Some of us look at the government and know with their practices, they're sinking the whole country. At some point common sense has to kick in.

The sad truth is that the apparatus of education, information and entertainment were seized by the left about 50 years ago. They are by now so sure of the strength and endurance of their grip that a pretense of fairness or an obfuscation of true intentions is no longer necessary. What to do? The Tea Partiers seem to think the right path is a strong leader who can articulate our principles to the nation as Reagan did, but Reagan rose up out of a landscape strewn with the rubble that Jimmy Carter's leftwing policies created. Carter's leftism was almost invisible compared to the destruction the Obama administration has forced on us; but we are a different country now and, though most people don't realize it, we all live under a benign totalitarianism. Life is a circus with free bread.

The democrats are also being very machievelian. One of the stories here in Australia was about an Australian scientist funded by US Gov't dep't who was ordered under threat of prosecution not to give a seminar paper at a conference he had already been flown to and accommodated at. The expenses have already been paid. But it embarrasses the government so this is an area to shut down. It saves no money whatsoever but it gives the media a stick. Similarly with all those tourist places shut down. One photo clearly showed that folk paid a fee to enter. That is, shutting that place lost revenue. They're playing political games through and through and someone in the media should have the integrity to call them on it.

But you're right, they don't.

So here's another proposal for a constitutional amendment; The electoral college consists of 1 elector per county/parish/independent city/county equivalent bound by the popular vote in that c/p/ic/ce. Regardless of differences in population. No longer would Chicago determine Illinois' electoral vote, no longer would Philadelphia determine Pennsylvania's electoral vote.

The only time anyone I know watches CNN anymore is at airports and waiting rooms. Propaganda has its entertainment value.

I watched five or ten minutes of CNN this morning and the "interviewer", Fredricka Whitfield, a graduate of the CNN school of modeling/journalism and a prettier version of Michelle Obama, was just basically arguing with the Republican spokesmen and uh-huhing the Dems. Do Democratic voters totally miss that or do they seriously want that from their "journolists"? I know. Stupid question.

Default this, and default that. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just let it happen? Seems like it's all going to collapse sooner or later anyway. Why not get it over with? I look at it as an opportunity for my kids, grandkids, and great grandkids to get out from under the debt that the self-centered "gimme, gimme" baby boomers have foisted on them.

I don't even know how to respond to this stuff anymore. We re-elected the president in an election that was wholly a referendum on Obamacare. Then the Supreme Court upheld the law. Now a small minority of House Republicans in gerrymandered districts are telling the rest of America that we can't have functional government because Obama hurt the GOP's poor widdle feewings?

And again, instead of taking a serious look at why the GOP is getting pummeled, the GOP and it's talking heads blame the media. Just like it was the media's fault that Romney lost. The reason why America is turning on the GOP has nothing to do with the media, and everything to do with the GOP's childish, hard line, completely unrealistic positions on everything.

1) Every district is gerrymandered.

2) ObamaCare was passed, and the people responded by voting out a lot of the bums who passed it. The people elected representatives to kill OCare. After all, just because it passed, does not mean we are stuck with it.

3) Yes, a minority (about 10%) of the Repubs are resisting, but it is a greatly powerful minority, because they are committed, and the other Repubs fear the power of that Tea Party. They don't just represent their own districts/State, but they also represent a whole bunch of people living in Democratic-gerrymandered districts. That means they represent people far beyond their own areas. As a person in a Blue State, I have to get my representation somewhere else. Everyone deserves representation, right?

4) GOP is not being unrealistic or childish. The fight needs to be fought. It is what they were elected to do. They are staying true to their campaign promises. Why would you have a problem with that? The last CR they sent over, only required a delay in the implementation of OCare. Is that childish, hardline, and unrealistic? The Dems killed it. They refuse to negotiate or compromise. Ruthless politics.

5) You think this is the Repubs' fault? Really? Well, that is because you have been buying the MSM propaganda. They fail to tell you that the Repub House has offered compromise after compromise, with bipartisan support, and the Dem Senate refuses to approve any one of the compromises. Bet you did not know that, did you?

I will not vote or contribute to any candidate that doesn't fight obummer at every turn. He and his tools are a destructive force in this nation and they are propped up by a mostly extremely leftist media.

Yeah, and once upon a time the Supreme Court upheld slavery too. Being upheld by the Supremes doesn't make it right AND that was one challenge on a fairly narrow set of arguments. Others are working their way through the system.

Gerrymandered districts? You mean sorta like G.K. Butterfield's (D-NC), or Sheila Jackson Lee's (D-TX), or Yvette Clarke's (D-NY), or Donna Edward's (D-MD) Districts, etc. Those kind of gerrymanders? Why do you assume Republican districts are the only districts gerrymandered? Both parties have done it, it's wrong no matter who does it, but don't assume the only way Republicans get elected is due to gerrymandered districts.

I'm stuck in clarkes district and I can't think of a single good thing she's done. Just another tool of an inept administration. THe problem is it's a mostly black district (gerrymandered in to give them an upper hand) and these are the same idiots that have 70% bastard births and mooch off taxpayers

It's easy. The constitution, whether you like it or not, spells out the rules. Obamacare violates those rules. We won't stand for it. Go somewhere else if you want to live under different rules.

With respect, Noah, my main problem with this argument is that GOP congressmen were also voted in in the last election, giving them the perfect right to stop the encroachments of the executive in just the manner envisioned by James Madison (Federalist #51). Elections have consequences, and President Obama was NOT the only person elected. Which may come as something of a surprise to President Obama!

The amount of hate speech emanating from MSM and the Democratic Party is indeed awesome. See my own glossary for the terms of hate: http://clarespark.com/2012/08/30/political-hate-speech-in-the-media/. As we all know, Republicans are Nazis in the Dem playbook.

"Our news media speak slavish obedience to power..."

ONLY when that power is from the left. If this was a Republican president, he'd be pummeled by the media.

Truth is, we no longer have "news" in the Mainstream Media. The MSM is a propaganda arm of the Democrat Party. The 'Pubbies should be suing them for their "in-kind" contributions to the Democrats, but the Democrats own the Federal Election Committee, too.

Yeah, I was guessing that NBC, CNN, CBS, ABC, NPR (National Socialist Radio), MSNBC were all still on the air since they are essential services of the Obama Administration.

Obamacare is like that big clump in the toilet that has already started spinning toward the drain hole. It is going down all on its own and it may stop up the drain a little. The problem is Republicans keep sticking their hands in the toilet trying to speed things up and they come out with all that crap sticking to them.
