If, for some strange reason, you try to leave a comment on a post more than a week old, you might get an error message.

Get used to it — it’s the new normal around here.

The comment spamming is picking up again, and there’s just no easy way to deal with it. So each time a post gets spammed, I no longer just delete the offensive comment, I also close the post to any new comments.

Oftentimes the same old posts get spammed for viagra, gay porn, used cars, whatever, with no apparent rhyme or reason. Those already have new comments disabled. The others will be closed off as new spam shows up.

I’d apologize for the inconvenience, but it’s a hell of a lot more inconvenient for me to go through all this than it is for you to lose the ability to add something to a two-year-old thread.
