OXON HILL, Md. — President Donald Trump jokingly praised the Green New Deal at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Saturday. He joked that he should not have attacked the shoddy and absurd climate change plan because he wants to run against a Democrat who has endorsed it.

“This is the new Democrat platform. I don’t want to talk them out of it. I don’t,” the president said. “This is a killer. I have to get off this subject.”

“I want them to embrace the plan. I want them to go sell this. I just want to be the Republican that runs against them,” Trump declared, to loud applause.

Then he joked, “I’m going to regret this speech. This speech should have been delivered a year from now, not now, damn it.”

“I should have saved the ‘Pocahontas’ thing for another year,” Trump joked, turning to the subject of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). “I have destroyed her political career and now I won’t get a chance to run against her and I would have loved that. I don’t want to knock out all of the good stuff and end up with somebody who actually has talent.”

The CPAC audience applauded loudly and broke into laughter.

Then the president became even more hilarious.

“So I do like the Green New Deal. I respect it greatly. It should be part of the dialogue of the next election,” he said, as the audience laughed hysterically. “I think it has tremendous promise and potential for the future of our country.”
