On Monday, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) fessed up to smoking marijuana in college. But her story doesn’t check out. She said she was listening to Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur while smoking her joint at Howard University, but the timeline just doesn’t fit.
Harris, a Democratic candidate for president in 2020, told “The Breakfast Club” that she smoked marijuana in college.
“Have you ever smoked?” the host asked. “I have, and I inhaled,” Harris answered. “It was a long time ago, but yes.”
When directly asked, “Was it in college?” Harris clearly said, “Uh-huh.”
Yet, later in the interview, the 2020 candidate contradicted this statement. She said she was listening to rappers whose music hadn’t come out by the time she graduated college — or even law school, for that matter.
The host asked Harris, “What was you listenin’ to when you was high? What was on? Was it Snoop?”
Again the sentator confirmed his suggestion. “Oh yeah, definitely Snoop. Uh-huh. Tupac, for sure,” she said, referring to Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur.
The only problem? Snoop Dogg and Tupac first hit the music scene in the 1990s, after Kamala Harris graduated from both college and law school.
Harris graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1986. She earned her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law, in 1989, and was admitted to the California Bar in 1990.
Snoop Dogg’s music career began in 1992 when he was discovered by Dr. Dre. He appeared on Dr. Dre’s 1992 album “The Chronic” and in the soundtrack of the 1992 film “Deep Cover,” and his debut album, “Doggystyle,” was released in 1993.
Tupac Shakur’s debut album, “2Pacalypse Now,” came out in 1991. His follow-up albums in 1993 and 1995 brought him commercial success.
If Harris was telling the truth about marijuana, and if she was telling the truth about listening to Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur while smoking her joint, she couldn’t have been telling the truth about when this lawbreaking happened.
So, was Kamala Harris lying about smoking weed in college or was she lying about listening to Snoop Dogg and Tupac? Given Harris’s straight-laced background and her legal success, it seems far more likely she’s lying about the entire incident.
Most likely, Kamala Harris decided that giving herself a marijuana backstory would help compensate for her hard-nosed history as a prosecutor, and draw comparisons between her and Barack Obama.
If this is indeed pandering, Kamala Harris proved just how bad she is at it.
