Trump Says 'George Washington Would be Voted Against 100 Percent by Schumer and the Con Artists'

In a press conference on Wednesday, President Donald Trump suggested that the Democrats in the Senate would vote “100 percent” against George Washington, the first president of the U.S. and widely considered the founder of America.

“If we said, we have George Washington, the Democrats would vote against him, just so you understand,” the president argued.

Then he jokingly cast aspersions into the character of America’s first president. “He may have had a bad past, who knows you know. He may have had some … I think, accusations made,” Trump said.

“George Washington would be voted against 100 percent by [Senate Minority Leader Chuck] Schumer and the con artists,” the president added. “I mean 100 percent — 100 percent.”

Then he suggested that if Brett Kavanaugh, his Supreme Court nominee currently being stalled by decades-old sexual assault allegations, were investigated and found 100 percent innocent by the FBI, the Democrats would still vote against him.

“If the FBI did the most thorough investigation in the history of the FBI, and they find him to be 100 percent perfect, he would lose every single vote,” Trump quipped.

His message sent “George Washington” trending on Twitter.

The Washington Post‘s Jonathan Capehart suggested Trump mixed up Washington with Thomas Jefferson, who fathered a child by raping one of his slaves.

Hilariously, John Zmirak suggested that Trump might harbor a grudge over the fact that George Washington started the French and Indian War. Britain won that war, but incurred a great deal of debt. The American Revolution happened because Britain asked Americans to pay extra taxes to cover the cost of that war. (Interestingly, the French Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, and even the revolutions in South America led by Simon Bolivar can be traced back to this important but oft forgotten war.)
