CNN's Jim Acosta Asks if a Female Reporter Could Speak, Then Hogs the Mic and Interrupts

On Wednesday, CNN’s Jim Acosta engaged in ridiculous virtue signaling by asking President Donald Trump to take questions from a female reporter, then hogging the microphone himself.

“If you don’t mind, after I’m finished, if Vivian or Hallie or one of our female colleagues…” Acosta began.

“What does that mean?” Trump asked.

“I think it would be great if a female reporter … I think it would be great if a female reporter could ask you about this issue,” Acosta, himself a male reporter, explained.

The president said he would have no problem with this. “I wouldn’t mind that at all. It wouldn’t make any difference to me,” he said.

Then Acosta went on to ask his question, “Why is it that you seem to always side with the accused rather than the accuser?”

Trump responded, saying he would have preferred Luther Strange to Roy Moore in last year’s Alabama Senate race. Then he suggested that women also could be accused of sexual assault.

“Whether it’s a man or a woman … allegations can go the other way also. Thirty-six years ago … in fact they don’t even know how many years ago,” he said. “I could pick a woman, and she could have charges made from many years ago also.”

Having received something like an answer to his question, Acosta refused to hand the mic over to a woman. Instead, he started asking a question about Trump’s understanding as to why accusers “are reluctant to come forward.”

Trump responded — and he had to cut Acosta off. “We’ve delayed this, meaning the Republican Senators, not me … They’ve given the women a major chance to speak. Now it’s possible I’ll hear that and say, ‘Hey, I’m changing my mind.'”

Again, Acosta refused to surrender the mic. He went on to ask, “All three [of Brett Kavanaugh’s accusers] should have a chance [to testify]?”

After yet another Trump response, Acosta finally turned over the mic.

True to his word, Trump purposefully called on a female reporter.

While it is perfectly fine for Acosta to ask the president multiple questions, it seems rather ironic for a male reporter to insist that a female reporter should ask questions, and then to hog the mic himself.
