Nancy Pelosi to George W. Bush: 'I Pray ... That You Were President Again'

On Sunday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi confused President Donald Trump with former President George W. Bush, and then said she wished the younger Bush were president again.

“Whoever wins understands the priorities of the American people, and they are not what President Bush —” Pelosi said on ABC News’ “This Week.” The former House speaker caught herself, but it was too late. She also confused President Donald Trump with Bush 43 in February.

More revealing, however, was her next comment. “I’m so sorry, President Bush. I never thought I’d pray for the day that you were president again,” the House minority leader declared.

This Democrat nostalgia for Republicans long gone is a feature of today’s Party of “No.” In 2016, President Obama fondly recalled running against Senator John McCain, and Clinton aides had Romney nostalgia. The current Republican is always the worst, the most loathsome, and literally Hitler.

But here’s the thing about crying wolf — the more you do it, the more wolf-like your opponents actually get, and when you’re actually facing a real wolf, no one believes you anymore.

So Pelosi (who railed against Bush) can pretend she wishes Trump were Bush, but if Bush really were still in the Oval Office, he would still be literally Hitler. That’s how this works, and why Democrat nostalgia is utterly meaningless.
