During President-elect Donald Trump’s first press conference since July, a CNN reporter tried to butt in and ask a question, even though Trump had not called on him. Instead, the president-elect had called on a female reporter, but the CNN reporter would not let it go.
Earlier in the press conference, Trump had doubled down on his tweet comparing the BuzzFeed and CNN reports attacking him to “Nazi Germany,” arguing that the claims were completely unsubstantiated “fake news.”
Responding to this attack, CNN Senior White House Correspondent Jim Acosta yelled above the crowd, trying to silence a woman Trump actually called upon. “No, not you! Not you!” Trump declared, but the reporter did not listen.
“Sir, can you state,” Acosta began. “Quiet, quiet,” Trump hushed him. “She’s asking a question.”
“Mr. President-elect, can you state categorically…” the reporter began again. Trump replied, “Don’t be rude.”
“You’re attacking us, can you give us a question?” Acosta asked. Trump repeated, “Don’t be rude.”
Finally, after the CNN reporter asked yet again, “Can you give us a question?” Trump gave his final answer. “No, I’m not going to give you a question. You are fake news.”
Ironically, Acosta (who was interrupting the female journalist Trump had actually called upon) shot back, “President-elect, that is not appropriate.”
