Former Speaker of the House John Boehner is again causing a ruckus about Texas Senator Ted Cruz. On Thursday, he made unsolicited comments about the senator, who dropped out of the race last week.
“Thank God that guy from Texas didn’t win,” Boehner declared, while discussing various presidential candidates at the SkyBridge Alternatives (SALT) Conference in Las Vegas. The former House speaker called the government shutdown, a result of Cruz’s steadfast opposition to Obamacare, the “dumbest thing I ever saw.”
Regarding his comments last month calling Cruz “Lucifer in the flesh,” the former House speaker joked, “I got criticized by some Satanic organization for giving Lucifer a bad name.”
The former House speaker didn’t just have negative things to say about his fellow Republican, however. Boehner refused to accept, as many have, the argument that the Justice Department is unlikely to indict Hillary Clinton over her email scandal. Instead, he claimed that he would not be surprised if the former secretary of State dropped out of the race, leaving the Democratic nomination to Vice President Joe Biden.

Boehner accepted Trump as the presumptive Republican nominee, but admitted that The Donald is “clearly not a conservative.” When asked if he agrees with Trump’s policy positions, he responded, “No. No. No. No. Might be a bit harsh. Not quite my style.”
Nevertheless, he thinks The Donald can — and likely will — win. “Anybody who doesn’t think Donald Trump can win, just watch,” Boehner declared.
