A Somali Muslim has been found guilty of trying to behead a man in London. The attempted murder took place in December of last year.
Muhiddin Mire — a 30-year-old Brit from Somalia — attacked 56-year-old musician Lyle Zimmerman after he walked out of the metro. The incident was filmed on a mobile phone from another traveler, who continued filming the incident even after Mire swung his blade at him.
While attacking Zimmerman, Mire shouted, “This is for Syria.” He then tried to cut off his victim’s head. He only failed in this attempted murder because passersby intervened and because his knife was blunt. Nevertheless, Mire bled out fast and required medical help from a junior medical doctor who just happened to be near when Mire staged his attack.
Although the defense and British media routinely mention that Mire was suffering from a psychosis, the fact of the matter is that he is — what else? — a radical Muslim. On his phone, investigators found ISIS propaganda and images of infamous ISIS executioner Mohammed Emwazi and of the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby, who was butchered by an Islamic radical on May 22, 2013. Mire considered that a great, heroic act in Islam’s name and was determined to replicate it.
In other words, not a mental disorder but the religious ideology known as radical Islam drove Mire to his terrible act.
