CNN was hoping special correspondent Jamie Gangel had the scoop of the primary season so far: “advisers” were supposedly telling Marco Rubio to get out of the race. This was according to multiple sources within the campaign who quickly morphed into a single anonymous source.
Strange things happen in politics all the time, especially this year, but people in the Rubio camp have been disavowing the story all day:
Rubio camp emails me, calls CNN report “insane” & “100% BS.”

It would appear that CNN may have stepped in it, for now at least. In the “lemonade out of lemons” department, the campaign used the incident for some fundraising:

My friend and veteran of previous campaigns (she is NOT, however, with the Rubio camp, she’s merely a supporter) Ellen Carmichael stirred the Twitter troops up by promising to retweet anyone who made a donation and an organic money bomb was born.
The MSM has been worse than usual in this election cycle. They’re so bad, in fact, that many Democrats I know are finally becoming aware of how the press can negatively impact a race or a candidate. The nice thing about new media, however, is that the playing field isn’t as tilted as it used to be and candidates, campaigns, and supporters can fight back a little now.
