Not again: US citizen detained in North Korea

State Department officials told CNN that the agency is working with the Swedish Embassy in an effort to secure the man’s release on humanitarian grounds.

The European nation represents American interests in the North as the the U.S. and North Korea do not have formal diplomatic relations. Officials also confirmed to CNN that they have been granted access to the man.

North Korea has detained several Americans in recent years.
