At the request of a subscriber I share my thoughts for the top five handguns for new shooters to learn on. After 20 years as an Instructor, I have found these five firearms to yield the best results for newer shooters. These include the Glock 17 Gen 2, S&W M&P 9mm, the S&W 686 (with .38 specials), the Ruger .22 / 45 and the Browning Buckmark in .22 LR.

I agree: new shooters should learn on a full-sized handgun.
