Sheila Jackson Lee Was For Impeachment Before She was Against It

Buzzfeed’s Katherine Miller catches Texas’ national treasure Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee in a nice whopper. During House debate over the lawsuit against President Obama Wednesday (a lawsuit, not impeachment, for what that’s worth), Lee took the mic and claimed that even as bad as that awful old George W. Bush was, she never tried to impeach him.

I ask my colleagues to oppose this resolution for it is in fact a veiled attempt at impeachment and it undermines the law that allows a president to do his job. A historical fact: President Bush pushed this nation into a war that had little to do with apprehending terrorists. We did not seek an impeachment of President Bush, because as an executive, he had his authority. President Obama has the authority.

But it turns out that Lee co-sponsored a bill to impeach Bush in 2008.

It’s tough to make the case that Lee is lying about this. She probably just doesn’t remember. We’re talking about the same person who confuses the Moon with Mars, and who believes that the Constitution is 400 years old, and who believes that there are still a North and South Vietnam living side by side in peace, love and harmony.

So Lee supported impeachment before she was against it, and co-sponsored legislation to impeach Bush in 2008. If you think about it for a second, Lee’s forgotten (by Lee) effort was pretty much useless anyway. Bush was already on his way out of office in 2008.
