Former AK Gov. Sarah Palin appeared on Fox and Friends this morning to respond to Martin Bashir’s resignation from MSNBC. Bashir has been sharply criticized for making disgusting remarks about Palin. On November 15, he reacted to a benign comment from Palin by suggesting that someone should defecate in her mouth.
MSNBC did not fire him. Bashir came under some criticism initially, then more after MSNBC sacked host Alec Baldwin for making anti-gay comments, but took no action against Bashir. The network’s double standard was evident. Bashir was eventually put on paid leave, and then resigned yesterday.
Palin told Fox and Friends that she accepted his apology, but unprovoked attacks such as Bashir’s have become so common that they’re just “par for the course” now.
“Well, at this point I’m used to it,” Palin said. “That’s kind of a sad state of affairs to have to admit, that I am used to it. After five years of this kind of stuff, some of that kind of gets knocked out of you a little bit. So six years ago I probably would have been personally hurt by such an attack. Now no, I look at it as kind of par for the course and just again, hoping that that doesn’t make those who have not yet been under attack like that hesitate to get out there — hesitate and get throughout and try to change the world.”
Palin noted that she never heard from the leftwing National Organization of Women after Bashir’s premeditated, scripted attack on her. She also noted that NBC took no meaningful action against Bashir, and allowed him to resign rather than firing him. Palin said that if someone in the media launches a similar attack on someone else, she will be there “gloves off, heels on” to defend them.
