(h/t to Mediaite‘s fantastic Noah Rothman, who tweeted this hot mess earlier)

Missing ALL the points.

MSNBC’s Richard Wolffe raised two important points about media bias during a debate with conservative radio host Steve Malzberg on Wednesday: One, Fox News is the number-one cable news channel in the country; two, The Wall Street Journal, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch, is the number-one-selling newspaper in the country.

To this, I would add the Rush Limbaugh is the number-one most listened to talk radio host in the country and Drudge Report, the conservative online news aggregator, is the number-one traffic driver for political news sites.

So, let’s cycle back through that: The dominant players across all news platforms are Fox News (by viewers), The Wall Street Journal (by circulation); Rush Limbaugh (by listeners); and Drudge Report (by traffic).

So, when conservatives slam the “liberal mainstream media” — what the hell are they talking about?

As analysis goes, this is painfully weak even by the low, low standards Politico strives for every day.

To answer the question, what we are usually talking about is the prevalence of subjective opinion pieces that masquerade as journalism at most of the major “news” outlets. The New York Times, the Washington Post, and the major network news outlets generally don’t employ real journalists anymore, they’re staffed with left-leaning advocates, especially in the Obama era.

The entire post is rather nonsensical because the entire premise is so flawed, as dominance, prevalence, and bias are being conflated.

The dominance of Fox News in cable ratings doesn’t lessen the bias at the other two cable players and the network news bureaus. This is a cute, fantastical leap Byers takes here that I am sure made sense in his head at the time.

He then tries to dismiss the overall numbers dominance of ABC, NBC and CBS by saying it doesn’t really count because they only broadcast news for an hour a day. Even that isn’t really true. The morning shows are run by the news bureaus (ABC, for example, runs four hours of news — including GMA each morning).

In the newspaper game, the combined circulation of the publications we accuse of bias (N.Y. Times, USA TODAY, WaP0, and L.A. Times) is over 4.6 million. The only two major players that can be perceived as not out in Left Land, WSJ and the New York Post, have a combined circulation of just under 2.9 million. And the Times overwhelms the Journal in the digital arena, 1,133,923 to 898,102.

The Agenda Media isn't fat...because Fox News, Drudge and the late Buckley are all skinny.

The Agenda Media has no agenda, because Fox News, Drudge, the late Buckley and Limbaugh have one.

The Agenda Media, Agenda Entertainment and Agenda Academia are all objective because Fox News, Drudge, the late Buckley and Limbaugh are not.

In playing Silly Syllogisms it helps to not have a conscience...and to be willing to lie to the American people each and every minute of your mendacious lives. That shoe fits the Agenda Trilogy to a tee. They lack any shred of honor...it's their most prominent attribute.

Good analysis, but what was also overlooked is that late night comedy, and pop culture in general, TV series, movies and music are all decidedly leftist. The low info voter doesn't even watch or read the news. They get programmed by programming on the TV.

Hell, even the Weather Channel is leftist. History Channel? Pretty leftist when they actually do History, which they don't do that often.

Basically, the left has permeated ALL of media and unless someone takes the initiative to seek out known conservative media, the viewing/listening public doesn't get the other perspective. Period.

I'm in Highschool debate, and there are guidelines for what are acceptable "sources" and what are not. NYT is acceptable, Fox is not.

You are in the grips of the brainwashing ethos common in American public schools throughout the land.

I am not defending Fox at any price, but as a source of news relative to the NYTimes, it is leaps and bounds higher in integrity.

Your task, should you decide to accept it :), is to wade through all the crapola being spewed around you and keep your own ability and facility for discernment in tact.

It ain't easy since the bombardment is relentless.

It is amazing that no reporter has stood has thrown a paper wad at J. Carney when he does his Tokyo Rose imitation at so-called press conferences. Also, what is with the Weather Channel constant attempts to link anything they get to global warming? Egads.

Even Fox News doesn't deliver the news as it should be delivered - unbiased and straight at the subject at hand. Let Hannity stray but a little into straight and truthful news about muslims and the higher ups at FNC will get a phone call from a Saudi Prince warning them to back off on said subject.

WHY?

Because that Prince has a (IIRC) 8-9% stake in FNC. Yep - even FNC has constraints placed on them.

Straight news? A relic of the past. If it ever existed at all.

Hannity is opinion, just like O'Reilly and Greta. They are not newscasters. There is a difference, although the Agenda media (thanks cfbleachers!) can't remember what that difference is...

Were did the real reporting of the current news go ? All I hear and see are " AGENDA DRIVEN opinion pieces.. Even the reporting of actual events are skewed based on AGENDA.. It seems to me that this started years ago with Cronkite.. Brinkley... etc.. so Politico being agenda driven as the are, should not be the entity to make any kind of determination on what network or news source is biased or not biased..
I want facts unadulterated truth.. the real deal.. But thats impossible to get the real truth today.. It's a very das state of affairs that we find ourselves in.

Obama has done his best to diss and diminish Foxnews, telling graduating college seniors and the like to, ahem, get a wide variety of news like at Huffington Post.

Peckish Obama has advised Congress that Rush Limbaugh is an impediment to them accomplishing stuff...(absurd)

In his recent one/two sales pitch on Syria however (one day the networks, the next day address the nation), Chris Wallace was one of 5 or 6 individual Obama network interviews.

Roger Ailes (a godsend to reporting) understands the value of persistence.

Our low info friends turn to their internet sites: AOL (Huffington Post); Yahoo (AP); MSN. Those are the most watched propaganda outlets deciding what news is fit to see.
Fox Radio News is liberal as is the WSJ Radio Report. Also whomever writes the scroll at the bottom is decidedly left on Fox, leaning more towards sensationalism.

"So, when conservatives slam the 'liberal mainstream media' — what the hell are they talking about?"

Everybody else but Fox News, WSJ, Limbaugh and Drudge. The biggest numbers go to those players because they're the only ones not assimilated.

And most of the time, it includes Fox News and the WSJ, both of which are tilting farther left each year.
