It’s irritating the hell out of Paul Krugman.
House Republicans have voted 37 times to repeal ObamaRomneyCare — the Affordable Care Act, which creates a national health insurance system similar to the one Massachusetts has had since 2006. Nonetheless, almost all of the act will go fully into effect at the beginning of next year.
There is, however, one form of obstruction still available to the G.O.P. Last year’s Supreme Court decision upholding the law’s constitutionality also gave states the right to opt out of one piece of the plan, a federally financed expansion of Medicaid. Sure enough, a number of Republican-dominated states seem set to reject Medicaid expansion, at least at first.
Krugman’s latest tired hippie thought-burp here has very little to do with constant attempts to repeal the Not-So-Affordable Care Scam but he leads with it so it’s easy to surmise that they’re getting under his skin.
As for the rest of the post, Krugman and his ilk are in their happy places at the moment because they can still live in the Land of Make Believe about Obamacare. He blissfully ignores the fact that companies are already scaling back hours and/or letting people go and that some labor unions are trying to flee the very monster they helped create. And this is before any of the real financial hardships from the law hit.
This all fits in with the Krugman modus operandi. He’ll shake his Nobel finger at us, explaining that we’re just too dumb to see that we are rejecting a cornerstone during the building of Utopia. When it doesn’t work, he will say that our attempts at obstructionism prevented the government from going big enough to make it happen. It’s a nice little system he has, never having to admit he’s wrong.
And never being proven right.
