Obama Snubs Thatcher Funeral

Citing a “busy week” on the Hill to push gun control (that’s probably not going to pass), the Obama administration will not send an envoy to the funeral of former British PM Margaret Thatcher. No official American presence to honor one of the most important defenders of freedom in the 20th century. The Republican-controlled House will send delegates, but the actual American administration will not.

Friends and allies of Baroness Thatcher expressed ‘surprise and disappointment’ last night as it emerged President Obama is not planning to send any serving member of his administration to her funeral.

Whitehall sources have revealed that the US delegation at tomorrow’s service in St Paul’s Cathedral will be led by two Reagan era secretaries of state: James Baker and George Shultz.

Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. However, the Obama administration had said it would not be attending Thatcher’s funeral before the Boston bombings.

For the love of…

Thatcher was a giant of her time. She was the strongest friend America had in Europe when she was at the helm. The Queen’s presence at her funeral makes it a state funeral. That demands a high level American presence — POTUS or at least a high ranking cabinet official.

The president has sent official envoys to a number of funerals of far less significant figures than Thatcher. Last year, Vice President Biden even canceled campaign events to attend former Sen. Arlen Specter’s funeral. As our top diplomat, Hillary Clinton went all the way to Ghana to attend the funeral of one of that country’s former presidents.

But our government can’t go across the Atlantic to honor our closest ally?

What next, will they try pinning their obvious snub on the sequester? They can’t find the money to fly to London…because Obama spent it flying to Colorado to push an admittedly “anti-gun” bill?

Every day Barack Obama and his cronies find new ways to be disgraces to the offices they hold.

The reason behind the snub may be obvious, though the media will not follow up on it: Barack Obama, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton all opposed President Reagan and Margaret Thatcher’s anti-Soviet policies during the 1980s. Kerry and Obama were both part of the “nuclear freeze” movement, the Soviet-funded propaganda effort to keep American weaponry off European soil to keep our allies free from communism. Thatcher backed Reagan, and together they brought the USSR down.

Obama et al refuse to honor her, because she and Reagan succeeded despite their efforts.
