Bloomberg's Soda Ban Wrecks Family Pizza Night

The New York Post reports that New York Mayor Nanny Bloomberg’s soda ban will impact a lot more than just the size of soda you can buy at the local convenience store or fast food joint. Despite the fact that 2-liter sodas will remain on grocery store shelves, pizza delivery companies will no longer be allowed to sell them to their customers. Domino’s has already adjusted to the new rule, which will go into effect March 12, by stocking no sodas larger than 16 ounces.

Families who go out for pizza night will also face the Bloomberg Ban: No more pitchers of soda. They will have to order individual drinks for everyone who attends.

The rule will increase pollution, as more bottles and cans will be required to serve delivery customers. Prices will go up too.

Typically, a pizzeria charges $3 for a 2-liter bottle of Coke. But under the ban, customers would have to buy six 12-ounce cans at a total cost of $7.50 to get an equivalent amount of soda.

“I really feel bad for the customers,” said Lupe Balbuena of World Pie in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn.

Domino’s on First Avenue and 74th Street on the Upper East Side is doing away with its most popular drink sizes: the 20-ounce and 2-liter bottles.

“We’re getting in 16-ounce bottles — and that’s all we’re going to sell,” a worker said.

The soda ban is another leftist tax hike. Bloomberg is a billionaire so he doesn’t care about the price hikes, but struggling families will end up cutting back on the family pizza deliveries.

Maybe the only thing more worrisome than Bloomberg’s tyrannical instincts are New Yorkers’ sheeplike behavior in accepting them. They grumble about it, a little, but where is the outrage? Where is the fear that once he gets away with this, Bloomberg will just move on to steal another piece of New Yorkers’ liberty? Where’s the tar and feathers, awaiting assembly?

The city seems docile in the face of their tyrant, or maybe they’re just accepting the idea that someone else should be making their personal diet choices for them.
