I was as shocked to write that headline as you may be to read it. But here is the story about a rare moment of moral clarity from the Obama administration:
The White House is blaming Syria for inciting deadly protests across its border and into the Israeli-held Golan Heights.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said Monday such behavior on the part of Syria is unacceptable. He said it was intended to draw attention from the Syrian government’s violent crackdown on its own people who are pushing for reforms.
Carney even added that Israel has a right to defend its borders. Too bad the White House still has yet to make the obvious connection (other than the one about nations defending their borders) — that Syria has been doing this for years and years, and whatever concessions we can talk the Israelis into making have not changed the fact that Syria, most of its neighbors and both of the major groups in the Palestinian leadership won’t be satisfied until Israel is no more.
