Automatic voter registration for welfare recipients

The Baltimore Sun has this opinion piece suggesting that all welfare recipients be automatically registered to vote.  If you follow elections closely, you’d see lots of incremental changes like this being proposed that undercut the electoral traditions of the democratic republic we live in.  Universal automatic voter registration, national popular vote for President, and now, automatic voter registration for people getting welfare  – all are on the agenda.  The freedom to tune out of politics (and not register or participate) is as important as the freedom to tune into politics and elections.
