In all the years that I have been a political activist and a professional political pundit, I have resisted the popular habit of always dismissing the other side as "crazy." Until recently, that is. Here in the Year of our Lord 2025, you can cast your eyes about anywhere in the American political world, and you won't have to look far to find evidence of the Democrats' frightening mental instability.
Seriously, these people ain't right.
There has been a lot of activity in conservative media in recent months having to do with the Democrats and their flying monkeys in the mainstream media covering for Joe Biden's obvious mental decline. The more I think about it, I can't rule out the possibility that some of them really didn't notice because Biden seemed relatively sane to them.
Democrats like to blame all of their aberrant behavior on President Trump, insisting that riots, stalking, and angry f-bombs are the only path to liberty in these dark, ORANGE MAN BAD times. Those of us who still have our wits about us know that their path to madness began decades before the political ascent of Donald J. Trump, however.
We often talk about the ideological intolerance of the Democrats, but mostly in the context of their relations with people on our side of the aisle. They abhor intellectual and ideological diversity, which is why they like to isolate themselves mostly on the coasts in homogenous thought communities.
What doesn't get mentioned often enough is the fact that they are even more intolerant of any diversity of ideas in their own party. Yes, there has been some performance art in the last seven years between the old guard and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's "Squad" ultra-proggies, but the truth is that the OGs are just as far left as Squeaky and her mean girls. The Elders of the Democratic Village prefer not to reveal all because they're more crafty when it comes to the game of politics. They used to be, anyway. That façade is one thing that Trump definitely broke. If you're taking a look at a political spectrum, though, you'd need a very powerful microscope to see the minuscule separation between Nancy Pelosi and AOC.
The reason that the Democrats are out of ideas is that they're allergic to them. They've settled into a pattern of believing that all economic solutions have to be equal parts FDR and Soviet Union, race relations haven't changed since 1955, and the only thing that's up for discussion is the shredding of the Constitution of the United States. These principles are their gospel, and no dissension shall be brooked.
Republicans are in the position that they're in right now because the party has been undergoing a very public and painful shake-up that Donald Trump began in 2016. It was ugly for a very long time. I say this as someone who has been in the GOP activist game for over four decades: if that hadn't happened, the Democrats would be settling in and enjoying the early years of hegemonic reign in Washington. Trump has brought us back from the edge of the cliff twice now, and he had to spend almost as much time battling Republicans as Democrats to do it.
Donald Trump was the kind of game-changer for the GOP that the Democrats don't have waiting in the wings anywhere. Most Dem elites would deny this and point to Zohran Mamdani, Squeaky, and other young progs as signs that the party is experiencing growing pains. No. The young progs are merely louder, dumber versions of Pelosi, Schumer, and the older gang. Raging socialism has been the beating heart of the Democratic Party for a very long time.
The Democrats lost last year because they couldn't even craft a sales pitch for moderate Democrats, never mind the independent voters. Their lack of willingness to be critical of themselves and their rush to purge from the hive mind anyone who is, is why they're on the outside looking in. From all indicators so far, it looks like their "Just scream about Trump" approach to returning to relevance isn't winning any hearts and minds.
I want to be clear about something. When I write about "The Democrats" in columns like this, I am referring to the prominent ones who are in front of cameras a lot, as well as their propaganda pimps in the mainstream media. There are non-coastal Democrats who haven't lost their minds and would no doubt love it if their party would get some professional help and give them something positive to vote for again.
For the moment, the Democratic elites are content with telling themselves that all they need to do is repackage the old ideas that they've been peddling. Ideas that passed their "sell by" date back in the 20th century.
