Democrats Still Haven't Learned the Biggest Cold War Lesson of All

Growing up during the Cold War and having family behind the Iron Curtain gave me an early life perspective regarding the awful priorities of the Democrats. It was probably one of the top two reasons that I never had a wandering liberal phase when I was young. The other was that I grew up in Barry Goldwater's Arizona, and being liberal just wasn't a thing decent people did back then.

Or even those of us who were only occasionally decent.

I used to listen to Democratic politicians and people I knew personally as a young man describe a life in the Soviet empire that stood in stark contrast to what my grandparents had to say whenever they returned from a visit to see family in Poland. Even in my late teens and early twenties, I was stunned by how comfortable the Dems are with being completely wrong about, well, everything.

For most of my life, the Dems have played footsie with radical, authoritarian communism. Ever since the Wuhan Chinese Bat Flu supersized their Soviet ambitions, they've been in a committed relationship with clinically insane leftism. Now more than ever, they're unhinged ideologues who are increasingly out of touch with anything remotely American. Even the Cold War denial Democrats from the '70s would think that the 2025 crowd is off the deep end.

The reason that the Democrats who are in charge of the party haven't learned any lessons from last year's election is that they never learned the BIG THING from the Cold War: regular Americans are constitutionally — in every sense of the word — averse to being communists. Coastal Media Bubble™ Democrats will probably never get that.

Since March of 2020, elected Democrats have been letting their totalitarian freak flags fly. That's what the voters rejected last November. Now we're seeing them melting down over the dismantling of the state apparatus that they have been using to oppress the citizenry and enrich their own lives. And I do mean melting down. Fascists know that things don't go well for them when the people they've been running roughshod over are set free.

The panic is delicious to watch, of course, but it only means that they'll become worse.

Let them. It's obvious that they only learn the hard way.
