Every few weeks, Bill Maher hits one out of the park on “Real Time.” Sure, he’s still an avowed leftist, but he is also a bit more of a realist than most entertainment industry liberals, especially when it comes to terrorism. While his slugging percentage is still low for conservatives, the few home runs are worth a look.
Here, Maher perfectly describes how social media works to sensationalize stories that aren’t really stories, and how the mainstream media plays a role in blowing it all out of proportion.
The real value in Maher’s occasional forays into common sense (however brief they may be) is that they get to an overwhelmingly liberal audience. He is one of the few on that side who is willing to wander beyond prescribed echo chamber boundaries. He gets in a cheap dig at Ivanka Trump here just to keep the faithful happy, but it’s otherwise a fantastic illustration of how people are being played these days. Video below.
