To the chagrin and/or surprise of almost everyone who was opposed to him during the primaries and the general election, Donald Trump has been behaving in a rather presidential manner in the last couple of days. In a sign that things really will be different than they have been for the last eight years, the president-elect reached out to the widow of a slain police officer.
President-elect Donald Trump called slain NYPD Sgt. Paul Tuozzolo’s widow Thursday morning and personally extended his “condolences” to her on the day that thousands of police officers paid tribute to the fallen Finest at his funeral.
“I’m very sorry I cannot be there with you today. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time,” Trump told the grieving woman, according to a source.
“I want to express my condolences from me and my family.”
Tuozzolo, a married father of two, was shot and killed last week by 35-year-old ex-con Manuel Rosales. Tuozzolo had been responding to a report of a break-in.
It will be a most refreshing change of pace if the Oval Office is occupied by a man who sides with law enforcement by default. President Obama has often found more common ground with anti-cop agitators than with the men and women who put themselves in danger every day to protect the public.
Anti-police behavior has become normalized in the Obama era. Yes, some cops are bad, but most aren’t. The anti-law enforcement agitators would rather everyone believe that the reverse is true. Maybe the new president can bring about that new tone the lefties were talking about so much a few years ago.
