Paramedics have said up to ten ambulances can ‘stack up’ outside James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, putting patients’ lives at risk.

Nationally, ambulances waiting more than half an hour increased by more than a quarter to 27,143 from the end of November to the start of this year – up from 21,472 in the same period in 2011, according to department of health figures.
