If the Left And The Press Were Hostile Aliens

If we were invaded by aliens who hated all of humanity, anything promising prosperity and advancement to the human race, and bore a particular hatred for the United States of America and its prosperity and well-being, how would we be able to tell?

More importantly, how would we be able to tell we haven’t been?

I’m old enough that I remember when the economic boom of the 80s got transformed by the press into “a decade of greed” of which we were all supposed to repent, as though a rising tide that lifted all boats after the morass of the seventies were a bad thing, for which we should somehow feel guilty.

But that was long ago, and some of you might not remember it, just like you might not remember that the supposed coming global cooling they taught in the seventies had the exact same origin – bad, polluting humans, and lots of them – and the same cure – send everyone back to the dark ages and kill most of the world population – as the supposed global warming doom.

However, it should not have escaped anyone’s notice that the press seems to be against anything that ensures the peace and prosperity of the US.

Take for instance the tax bill that caused fits and histrionics among all my friends. They screamed and threatened to hold their breaths because, horror of horrors, the government might not take as much of our money as it has the last several years.

I fail to see the problem with this, and no, I don’t believe the crazy idea that people will be dying on the streets because they’re no longer forced to pay towards the Obamacare boondoggle.

But what really astonished me were the claims that the President is very bad at foreign policy, because … other nations aren’t happy with our tax bill.

And why aren’t they happy with our tax bill? I’m glad you asked. Take this from the linked article:

While Americans are anxiously awaiting full details of the tax bill now being finalized in Congress, German economists are warning that the changes sought by President Donald Trump mean that significant amounts of new investment and jobs will shift from Europe to the United States.

“The tax competition will have a new dimension,” said Christoph Spengel, chairman of the corporate tax department at the University of Mannheim. Mr. Spengel, who is also a research associate at the Center for European Economic Research, and a group of tax experts at the university have done a detailed comparison of the two countries’ tax systems and published a report under the heading, “Germany loses out in US tax reform.”

Clemens Fuest, who heads the Ifo economic think tank, also said he believed German business would suffer. “Investments and jobs will migrate to the US,” he said.

Investments and jobs will migrate to the US, you say? IOW the president will fulfill his promise of bringing jobs back to the US?

And why would that be wrong, precisely, other than the fact that Europe, like good socialists, and our own progressives, like good sheep, believe in the preposterous Marxist fixed pie theory that dictates that if you’re eating three slices someone else must be eating none?

This is nonsense in historic terms, since we’ve proven rather conclusively in the very prosperous twenty-first century that wealth can be created. If it couldn’t we’d all be fighting over the few arrowheads our ancestors possessed.

But our left and the media – I repeat myself – is convinced, somehow, that Europe looking after its own interests is right and just, while anyone looking after American interests is engaging in nefarious and villainous attempts to steal the wealth from those poor other countries.

As I said, if we’d been invaded by aliens who hated all humans but Americans particularly, how could you tell the difference.

More recently, still, remember the left losing what is left of their minds in fear that Trump was going to precipitate us into World War III by talking tough and refusing to give more money to Kim Whoa Fat in North Korea?

Mind you, we’ve heard the same things every time an American President speaks in less than appeasing terms to the bad actors of the world. “Oh, no, he’s going to get us all killed.”

For the left it’s always the Bay of Pigs, and the way to keep from being killed is to speak softly and carry no stick at all. I remember my brother being very upset that George W. Bush was going to get us all killed by naming “tiny, mad North Korea” among the Axis of Evil. He never explained the mechanisms behind his fear, and we didn’t discuss it further, because frankly I’ve grown to accept he has this one area of insanity where it’s not worth challenging him.

Of course, the tax cut doesn’t seem to have killed anyone. At least I’ve not noticed anyone dying on the street for lack of paying a fine for not having Obama care, have you? At any rate, if I find someone in such dire predicament, they’re welcome to give me the money they’d have paid the government, instead. I undertake to spend it almost as frivolously as the government would. Not as frivolously, because that might be impossible.

And strangely – Quelle surprise! – the tough words and no cash for North Korea are also bearing exactly the opposite fruit of what the left warned us about. It is, in fact, leading to peace overtures.

The two countries also announced military talks “to ease the current military tensions” following a year of hostilities over North Korea’s missile and nuclear testing in the region and US-South Korea joint military drills over the peninsula.

“South and North Korea have decided to make joint efforts for the unity of the people and reconciliation by establishing an environment for peace and easing military tensions on the Korean Peninsula,” the statement read.

It’s almost as though everything the left and the press – yes, redundant again – warns us against are things that are to our benefit, and the things that they push us towards are things that would hurt us. (Which incidentally explains the Obama years.)

In fact, if the left and the press had been taken over by aliens hostile to the US which is the last best hope of humankind, how could we tell the difference from the current state of affairs?

I don’t know. And I bet neither do you.

So ignore the aliens. Just like it’s not the US’s job to preserve the economy of Europe, it’s not Earth’s job to make the people from Alpha Centauri happy.

Just remember that whatever they say they really really really hate us.
