There’s a certain levity and good old-fashioned schadenfreude to be had from the LA Times disclosure that chief judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals Alex Kozinski was caught with his cyber-pants down when his personal website was revealed to be housing such items as “a photo of naked women on all fours painted to look like cows and a video of a half-dressed man cavorting with a sexually aroused farm animal.”
Judge Kozinski had been in the midst of trying an obscenity trial (not his own) which now has been suspended.
The Times further reports: “Kozinski, 57, said that he thought the site was for his private storage and that he was not aware the images could be seen by the public, although he also said he had shared some material on the site with friends.” [Were those friends in PETA?-ed. Wise guy.]
And, yes, it’s fun it’s one of the wacko activist judges of the 9th Circuit who finds himself in this hypocritical mess. But… and I almost hesitate to point this out…. Kozinski was, according to the AP, reputed to be “a strong defender of free speech and First Amendment rights.” What he has done is pretty buffoon-like and pathetic (and he’s most likely lying about thinking it secret – sounds more like the opposite – he was showing off)… but it seems to me protected speech. In these complex times, we should all be for that.
Okay, I take it back. The guy’s a narcissistic idiot. [But shouldn’t there be free speech for narcissistic idiots?-ed. You mean like this one?]
