Distressing News on Sex Offenders

According to ABC News,

There are more than 400,000 registered sex offenders in the United States ‚Äî convicted criminals whose fingerprints, names, and addresses have been recorded on official lists. But victims’ advocates say almost 25 percent of them have slipped through the cracks, and authorities no longer know where they live.

If there could be any fitting memorial for the hideous abduction and murder of 9-year-old Jessica Marie Lunsford, it would be to do something about this. In a society as open as ours with a fluid population, this would seem to be one area where federal law should trump state law.
