An online survey of 500 U. S. adults taken by PJTV and Survey Sampling International on the Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) Twitter scandal reveals a substantial majority (73%) favoring Weiner’s resignation from Congress. The survey, which was conducted on June 8, 2011, between 3 and 4:30 PM and has an error margin of +/-4 percent, was taken at a time when several members of Weiner’s own Democratic Party had already called for his resignation.
The disapproval of the congressman’s activities went across party lines in the survey with the number of Democrats strongly agreeing or somewhat agreeing that Weiner should resign at 69%. Republicans and Independents were 79% and 73% respectively. It also crossed racial lines with whites, blacks, hispanics and other all disapproving at substantially the same rate.
The only group that was somewhat more lenient toward the New York congressman was younger voters (18-34) who were less likely to strongly agree that he should resign, although even 68% of that category in toto still agreed that Weiner should leave Congress.
PJTV and Survey Sampling International are continuing to survey this matter to obtain a larger sample set than 500. We will report more results at a later date, should the situation merit it. Survey Sampling International is the premier global provider of sampling solutions for survey research.
