President Donald Trump wasn’t even in Florida at the time, and so we were spared the spectacle of a third attempt on his life. Nevertheless, it’s clear that when Austin Tucker Martin entered Mar-a-Lago in the early hours of Sunday morning armed with a shotgun and a fuel can, he wasn’t intending to take a dip in the pool or play a round of golf.
And it’s also clear that Austin Tucker Martin didn’t spring up out of nowhere. Like Thomas Crooks and Ryan Routh, Austin Tucker Martin is the logical result of the left’s overheated rhetoric and constant efforts to demonize and destroy Trump. Now, a retired FBI special agent has spelled out just how serious this problem has become.
Former FBI special agent Nicole Parker said on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures With Maria Bartiromo that Trump is in “more danger than any other president,” and the implications of that are extraordinary and multifaceted. It is clear, in the first place, that Parker is right. That’s beyond dispute. Leftists have been making Republican presidents out to be Satan incarnate (well, they’d probably like Satan more) since at least the days when Richard Nixon was wandering morosely through the White House hallways, but they’ve turned the hate amplifier up to 11 for Trump.
Presidents have been assassinated before, and there have been other attempted assassinations, but not even Lincoln, Nixon, or Reagan, all of whom were the targets of an immense amount of hatred while they were in office, had to deal with the level of demonic rage that the left directs at the current president.
Trump was also the first president in American history to be the subject of concerted, organized, and multifaceted efforts to frame him for crimes he did not commit and make the electorate think that he was a criminal, and hence unfit to hold the office of president. These efforts, too, have contributed mightily to the danger that Trump is in now. Not only is he the new Hitler, a fascist dictator in the making, but he is also a rapist, a thief, a grifter — virtually every kind of scoundrel there is. Despite the failure of much of this effort, it has had its intended effect: Millions of leftists assume these wild claims and false charges to be true, and that is just one of the reasons why all too many think that it would be a great boon for the country if he were removed from office, however that were accomplished.
Then there is also the fact that leftists have generally abandoned any semblance of traditional morality, and are increasingly frank and open about the fact that they would actually rejoice and throw parties if someone did succeed in assassinating Trump. Their glee after the murder of Charlie Kirk is an indication of that. Making matters even worse is the absolute and stunning refusal of leftist leaders to condemn such bloodlust.

One of the most egregious cases of this is Jay Jones, the new attorney general of Virginia. During his campaign for that office, Jones was revealed to have written that he wished a House Republican colleague would get “two bullets to the head,” and that the same colleague’s wife would watch their child die in her arms, for “only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”
Instead of condemning Jones and dropping him as a candidate, Virginia Democrats lined up to reaffirm their support for him, and he won a comfortable victory over his Republican rival. Abigail Spanberger, who ran successfully for the Virginia gubernatorial office at the same time, remained stubbornly mum as her Republican challenger, Winsome Earle-Sears, repeatedly asked her to repudiate Jones. And now Spanberger has been chosen to deliver the Democrats’ response to Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday night.
The message is clear: the Democrats not only will not reject violence against their opponents, but will support and elevate those who call for it. Trump is in more danger than any president before him because Democrats have rejected a fundamental element of American political life: the assumption that the opposition, no matter how severe our disagreements, deserved respect as a fellow American who wanted what’s best for this country. The Democrats have replaced that idea with the rock-solid conviction that Trump and his supporters are evil, and must be eradicated.
They are increasingly behaving in line with this conviction. There is absolutely no chance that Austin Tucker Martin will be the last person to do so.
