Tiffany Henyard is one of the most brazenly corrupt politicians you'll ever see. She ran the town of Dolton, Ill., like a personal fiefdom, routinely using tax dollars for personal perks and employing the police department as enforcers whenever residents threatened to expose her.
Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot was tasked with conducting an investigation of Henyard that concluded she had "blatantly disregarded the purchasing policy of Dolton Village and the larger township by racking up excessive spending that left the municipality in deficit and that she attempted to hide its dire financial state," according to a report from FOX 32 Chicago.
The town had a budget balance of $5.61 million in 2022 that shrank to a $3.65 million deficit by 2024. She spent a million dollars on overtime for her personal security detail of Dolton cops alone.
I wrote in January 2025, "Wild spending on friends, a million dollars spent in overtime for her personal security supplied by Dolton police, first-class trips to Vegas, and over $700,000 in credit card debt were just some of the financial ' irregularities' discovered by Lightfoot's investigation."
It all began to fall apart for Henyard when, on one of her trips to Vegas with staff, a young woman was reportedly drugged and raped. This brought the FBI into the picture, and her days as mayor became numbered.
One board meeting degenerated into a brawl.
This is what corruption looks like…

Illinois Mayor Tiffany Henyard’s alleged misuse of tax-payer dollars:
• $100,000 spent on travel in just five months.
• $9,000 billed to Thornton Township for a January Mayors trip in Washington, D.C.
• $374,000 for three SUVs
• $24,000… https://t.co/72QdXVFnNx pic.twitter.com/0LgSvPt7ZO
Henyard's then-boyfriend went after an activist who called the mayor a "b***ch" and a "half-**sed mayor." The mayor jumped into the fray with both feet.
The remarks by the activist begin at 2:06. (WARNING: Strong Language). Watch as Henyard (with red hair) comes flying into the melee.
So what ever happend to Tiffany Henyard?
After getting blown out in the Democratic primary for re-election (88% voted against her), Henyard immediately established residency in Fulton County, Ga. Last month, after becoming eligible, she filed the paperwork to run for a seat on the Fulton County Commission.
That's only half the story. She is running as a Republican in a district that's 91% Democratic.
Fox5:
"I'm aware that there was an investigation," said Andra Gillespie, a political scientist at Emory University.
Gillespie pointed out that Henyard lost her mayoral seat in February 2025 and quickly registered to vote here in Georgia.
"She registered to vote here in Georgia on February 27th, which would give her the qualifications in order to meet the letter of the law in terms of what the standard is," Gillespie said.
So far, the Fulton County GOP hasn't mentioned Henyard's candidacy.
Fulton County Commission District 5 encompasses the southern part of the county, which is overwhelmingly Democratic, so, as a Republican, Gillespie said Heynard has an uphill battle.
Additionally, her newcomer status presents a bigger issue Gillespie anticipates democrats will exploit.
"I am known in the community, and this person is a newcomer, yet who hasn't earned the trust to be able to, you know, run credibly for this office," Gillespie said.
Republicans aren't exactly disowning Henyard. They're just ignoring her. Since she's the only Republican on the primary ballot, she is assured of being in the general election.
Whether they can swear her in is another issue.
WGN reports that "Residency rules indicate candidates for county office in Georgia must reside in the county in which they’re seeking office for at least one year. That means Henyard may not be legally allowed to assume office if she won."
She's still under investigation, so even if, by some miracle, she became eligible and won the race, she may be serving her term from prison.
