"Supreme Court Picks Up Where Jan. 6 Mob Left Off," claims a David Rothkopf article in The Beast.
"I don’t think most Americans realize how close we are to losing everything we most value about our system of government.," Rothkopf opens. The piece goes downhill from there.
"They took a case they should not have accepted, agreeing to hear arguments that were already rejected in an expertly argued appeals court decision. Just as damagingly, they did so in a way that — regardless of their final ruling — would mean American voters would likely not hear a verdict before November’s election."
That's the real beef: "American voters would likely not hear a verdict before November’s election." Why should that matter?
The American voter already knows that Trump is under 91 indictments and four criminal cases. They may not know the exact number of indictments or cases, or are familiar with the issues. But you'd have to live in a cave not to know that Donald Trump is in deep legal trouble.
It hasn't slowed him down in the slightest. Nor has it seriously affected his popularity or his standing in the polls. If the election were held today, Donald Trump would win.
Rothkopf and most of the left are enraged at the Supreme Court because they believe that if they could only make us see that Trump wants to kill democracy (whatever that means) we'll all clap our foreheads in unison and exclaim, "Gee. I never saw it that way," and then Biden would win in a landslide.
That's what hysteria does to the human mind. It drives out logic and replaces reason with paranoid delusions.
This is what passes for logic in Rothkopf's piece: "It is a dark irony. They [SCOTUS] have chosen to hear the Department of Justice’s case against Donald Trump for election interference in a way that is itself election interference."
Huh? In what way is the Supreme Court practicing "election interference" in hearing this case? They're not allowing the voters to hear and understand what a very, very, very bad man Donald Trump truly is because it will delay the trials. As if they hadn't heard it all before and included it in their decision calculus, right?
The Evil Sisters on "The View" can always be counted on to supply generous doses of equal parts stupidity and uninformed twaddle.
"I have to say I find it very depressing," Joy Behar said. "I find it depressing because I feel like not only are we alone in the universe, we’re now alone in the country. We’re supposed to rely on the Supreme Court to be above reproach and they’re not."
Why not? Because they took a case that the left-wing radicals say they shouldn't? If you don't have original arguments, keep your trap shut.
Whoopie Goldberg was even more bat-guano crazy. She posits the notion that if SCOTUS rules in Trump's favor, Biden can throw all Republicans in jail: "Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says yes, he has all those rights. He is immune from everything. You know what Joe Biden could do since he is presently president? Wooooo!" Golberg said. "He could throw every Republican in jail. I mean, he could!"
I mean, no he couldn't. Sheesh.
Elsewhere, the idea that voters would suddenly change their minds about Trump if only... if only... dear God, if only he would be convicted of a crime.
"This is an absolute disgusting abuse of power," MSNBC's Jason Johnson said this week. "I’m on campus right now, and I was explaining this case to my students today, and they’re literally saying, ‘Why is this taking so long? This isn’t that complicated.’ I literally had to show them a video from ‘Lethal Weapon 2’ about diplomatic immunity to explain how silly presidential immunity is."
I don't know whether to laugh, cry, or throw my shoe at the monitor. It "takes so long" because, despite the universal desire on the left to just hang Donald Trump and get it over with, even the man who most endangers democracy has legal rights.
It would be incredible if this kind of delusional thinking about Trump wasn't so commonplace on the left.
