Fox News reports that Al Gore may head to North Korea to negotiate the release of two American journalists held by Pyongyang:
He’s won an Academy Award and a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to save the planet from global warming. Now Al Gore may be asked to embark on another perilous mission.
Speculation is swirling that the Obama administration may send the former vice president to North Korea to negotiate the release of two American journalists sentenced Monday to 12 years in labor prison — which many view as a death sentence because of the intense labor practices of the camps.
The Associated Press says the administration believes that diplomacy is the best way forward in order to resolve outstanding problems with North Korea.
President Barack Obama’s special envoy on North Korea says the U.S. has no intention to invade the communist country or change its regime by force. …
North Korea said Tuesday it would use nuclear weapons in a “merciless offensive” if provoked — its latest rhetoric apparently aimed at deterring any international punishment for its recent atomic test blast.
Barack Obama is searching for something within his organizational repertoire that will work in the North Korean situation. He’s tried the policy equivalent of duct tape, spray paint and epoxy but it hasn’t worked. He is quite naturally reluctant to use the hammer, impact drill or saw because it might irreparably smash what he’s trying to fix. But in the meantime the object he’s working on continues to fall apart.
