“I imagine many Democrats were celebrating last night” is not a phrase you want to utter if you’re the Republican leader in the U.S. Senate. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) looked almost tearful as he announced that their goal of repealing and replacing Obamacare immediately had been sidelined. He still hopes that the Congress will authorize a two-year period to reshape our healthcare laws, but confirmed that there will be no immediate action, as Senators Lee (R-UT) and Moran (R-KS) defected. McConnell reiterated that Obamacare is failing, a fact which most don’t fully dispute, and said that he had higher hopes for his caucus.
Did the immediate-repeal movement fail because of frail Republicans, or did it fail because their proposal resembled Obamacare light? Leave your comments below.
