Rep. Al Green (D-TX) went before the House of Representatives to call for the impeachment of President Trump. Green described why he thought Trump’s Comey firing and associated dealings were, in his mind, impeachable offenses. This statement will be in the House official record, but doesn’t actually have a lot of weight. That’s why the real thrust of his remarks was to try to get the American people to let other congressmen know that they want impeachment; he even promoted the website impeachdonaldtrumpnow.com. This is mostly a symbolic event, but it does seem to be the first time a congressman has called for Trump to be impeached on the House floor.
