Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has cancelled her trip to California for Monday and Tuesday and will rest at her home in New York after she had a “health episode” at New York City’s 9/11 commemoration ceremony.
Clinton was caught on video leaving the event and waiting to enter her transport as she was propped up by an aide. She was then assisted into the vehicle but fell down and lost a shoe before she was successfully put into her van.
But a witness told Fox News that Clinton stumbled off the curb, her “knees buckled” and she lost a shoe as she was helped into a van during her “unexpected early departure.” The NYPD was sent to retrieve Clinton’s shoe, according to NBC.
At first the campaign said the presidential candidate wanted to leave the event because she “felt overheated.”
Finally, the campaign said her personal doctor had diagnosed her with pneumonia two days earlier on Friday.
“Secretary Clinton has been experiencing a cough related to allergies,” Dr. Lisa R. Bardack said in the statement. “On Friday, during follow up evaluation of her prolonged cough, she was diagnosed with pneumonia. She was put on antibiotics, and advised to rest and modify her schedule. While at this morning’s event, she became overheated and dehydrated. I have just examined her and she is now re-hydrated and recovering nicely.”
In California, Clinton was scheduled to fundraise for two days and appear on Ellen DeGeneres’ show.
The Clinton campaign’s media pool was prevented from following the candidate after she left the event. Clinton was taken to daughter Chelsea’s apartment after the “health episode,” emerging on foot and without assistance around noon and telling the press that she was “feeling great.”
“It’s a beautiful day in New York,” Clinton yelled to press waiting across the street.
Clinton also stopped for a photo opportunity with a little girl.
