Two officers were shot in San Diego and one has died from his injuries during a traffic stop on Thursday night in the Southcrest neighborhood.
The officers, both part of the department’s gang suppression unit, were not immediately identified.
The two were rushed to hospitals after the shooting. One of them had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and died despite life-saving efforts. The second officer was undergoing surgery early Friday.
The shooting occurred about 11 p.m. somewhere in the area of Acacia Grove Way near 36th Street. Police said one person was in custody and another was being sought. No additional information has been released.
The second police officer is expected to survive.

Police were searching the area for additional suspects while residents were warned to shelter in place. Police have stopped searching for other suspects.
Police said the officers were shot while making a stop and immediately called for help. The fallen officer suffered many gunshot wounds.
