Orwellian: CNN's Don Lemon Suggests Trump's Speech Should Be Censored Before Americans Hear It

Don Lemon

On Monday night, CNN host Don Lemon suggested that perhaps President Trump’s planned immigration speech should be delayed so that monitors can go through and edit it before it’s aired to the American people. CNN and some other networks made a big show on Monday about whether or not they would air the speech at all, but in the end, decided they will run the president’s remarks live on Tuesday night.

“Do you think it should be, I don’t know, a delay of some sort and then you can — because people will believe it,” the Orwellian CNN host said. “People — the president will say what he has to say. People will believe it whether the facts are true or not… ” he trailed off.

“I guess that’s a chance you take with any president,” Lemon said with a hint of feigned wistfulness. “But this one is different,” he declared resolutely. “And then, by the time the rebuttals come on, we’ve already promoted propaganda — possibly — unless he gets up there and tells the truth.”

Even fellow CNN host Chris Cuomo, who’s usually equally unhinged, wasn’t buying it. The look on his face when Lemon suggests a delay is precious — it really should have it’s own “Wut?” speech balloon. “He has his right to make the argument to the American people,” Cuomo said. “And by the way,” he added, “wanting barriers along the border is not propaganda. It’s not immoral, it’s not wrong.”

He’s absolutely right, but you wouldn’t know that if you watched CNN night after night, where guests regularly screech about “children in cages” at the border and make Border Patrol agents out to be monsters. No propaganda there, no siree. (And don’t even get me started on how the Ministers of Truth over at CNN cover mass shootings.)

“I have no problem with this,” Cuomo continued. ” I see no problem with this. I believe that fears of people saying that, you know, you should limit the exposure of this president to the American people — I dismiss that notion entirely. I think that is anathema to American political exchange.”

Funny, I don’t remember Lemon worrying about propaganda when his network was airing President Obama lying about Americans being able to keep their health insurance under Obamacare. Or when Susan Rice lied on Candy Crowley’s show about a “hateful video” being to blame for the Benghazi attack. (Or for that matter, Candy Crowley inserting herself into the presidential debate when Mitt Romney brought up Benghazi.)

As we like to say around here, if the Democrats (and I include Lemon in their number) didn’t have double standards they’d have no standards at all.
