How low can Corey Lewandowski go? Hard to say, but this latest episode is pretty bad, even by the former Trump campaign manager’s standards. Appearing on Fox News to debate the migrant crisis at the border with former DNC advisor Zac Petkanas, Lewandowski made light of the story of a 10-year-old girl with Down syndrome who has been separated from her mother (video below).
“Womp, womp,” Lewandowski interrupted, sending Petkanas into near hysterics — and rightly so.
The Internet, of course, reacted immediately:
This is so horrible, even by Lewandowski standards. https://t.co/4SNBUtCgfu

There is no low to which this coward Corey Lewandowski won’t sink. This man should not be afforded a national platform to spew his hate. https://t.co/M8adu7P2sf

Sure, Lewandowski was Trump's campaign mgr. He also went on to be a paid political analyst for CNN & a fellow at Harvard. Various companies, including Lockheed Martin, have paid him for advice. And he's reportedly worked w/ the DC lobbying giant BGR. This stain is on all of them. https://t.co/aPrrFXvjBk

Womp womp will be the sound Corey Lewandowski's soul makes as it descends to Hell

If I'm not mistaken, Corey Lewandowski is a consultant to–among others–Mike Pence's PAC, the Great America Committee. Is @VP fine with his comment on TV tonight? Is @VP happy to keep paying him handsomely?

I spent quite a bit of time scrolling through the comment threads on this story and was unable to find a single person attempting to defend Lewandowski. That’s when you know it’s bad.
Look, there’s plenty of room for disagreement on the issue of what to do with families who cross the border illegally, but can’t we all agree that it’s no joking matter? The traumatized children who have been separated from their parents—no matter who’s to blame—did nothing to deserve our mockery and contempt. These are little kids who, through no fault of their own, have been detached from everything they know and love, which much be unbelievably terrifying for them. They’re not pawns in a game of political one-upmanship, they’re children who deserve compassion and security rather than scorn and ridicule.
Sadly, politicians and pundits on both sides of the aisle are too busy posturing and grandstanding to actually fix the problem.
I don’t care whether or not Petkanas had his fact straight on this story. I don’t care if Corey was mocking Petkanas rather than the child. Go ahead and try to parse it to fit your narrative if you want. His response was completely inappropriate and demonstrates a level of cynicism that betrays what’s in his heart on this issue. We know there are thousands of kids who have been separated from their parents and their plight deserves our sober consideration. If you can’t stop screaming long enough to feel heartache over the predicament of little kids who have no idea if they’ll ever see their parents again, you have no soul and should be ashamed of yourself. Corey Lewandowski should be ashamed of himself. I hope he has the decency to walk back the comments—but I’m not holding my breath.
you sitting down?
here’s Corey Lewandowski mockingly saying “womp womp” to the story of a 10-year-old girl with Down Syndrome who was separated from her mother at the border.
