The Internet is buzzing about this ad for a pregnancy test, which at first glance looks like it features a happy couple learning that they’re expecting a baby. Well, except for one minor…er…MAJOR detail.
According to Adweek, the ad was originally from the Netherlands and dates back to 2011. It was created by a Dutch agency, Etcetera, to promote the Predictor pregnancy test and was featured on billboards at the time.
Chris Sant, who was the art director for the campaign (and is now a senior creative director at J. Walter Thompson Amsterdam), told Adweek, “We didn’t know our ad would go viral after six years! Great!” He added that contrary to what many have speculated, the test featured in the ad was just an ordinary pregnancy test—not a gender prediction test.
“Since Predictor is 99.9 percent accurate, you’d rather depend on the test than your belly,” Sant quipped, although he did admit that the agency did engage in a bit of “advertising exaggeration.”
