Mike Huckabee announced on Saturday night’s Huckabee show that it would be his final show at Fox News as he ponders a presidential run.

“Tonight I’m going to do more than just say goodnight. I’m going to say goodbye. This is the last edition of Huckabee on the Fox News Channel,” the former Arkansas governor told his audience, saying the show “has been the ride of a lifetime” over the past six and a half years.

“There’s been a great deal of speculation as to whether I would run for president and if I were willing to absolutely rule that out I could keep doing this show,” Huckabee said. “But I can’t make such a declaration.”

He said he will not make a decision about running for president until next spring. “But the continued chatter has put Fox News in a position that just isn’t fair to them. Nor is it possible for me to openly determine my political and financial support to justify a race. The honorable thing to do at this point is to end my tenure here at Fox,” Huckabee said.

Huckabee reiterated that he could not rule out a presidential run. “But I agree with Fox that this is the right thing and now is the right time” to end the show he said.

“I’m not going to disappear,” Huckabee promised his audience. “And I’ll probably make guest appearances here on Fox — I hope so — but no longer as a member of the staff.”

He thanked Fox News president Roger Ailes as well as his staff and colleagues at Fox.

“So, that’s it for the Huckabee show. I say goodbye, but as we say in television, stay tuned. There’s more to come.”
