A double murder that was originally attributed to criminal activity in the Vivalla area of Örebro now appears to have a terror connection, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports today.

Three men are already in custody for the shootings that killed two and injured another on July 3, but a fourth man arrested this past Friday in the case had reportedly fought for ISIS in Syria and returned several years ago.

According to SVT, the 30-year-old man traveled to Syria during the fall of 2013 and fought with a militia that joined with ISIS when they announced the caliphate. Two of his brothers were also killed in the fighting. He returned several years ago with war wounds and was treated in a Swedish hospital.

The largely immigrant area of Vivalla has been responsible for producing the largest number of ISIS foreign fighters in Sweden. At least 20 people from the area traveled to Syria and Iraq to join ISIS and other terror groups.

As many as 300 people from Sweden joined jihadist groups in Syria and Iraq, and at least 150 have already returned:

I reported here at PJ Media a year ago that Sweden’s spy chief admitted that the number of ISIS sympathizers in the country had skyrocketed into the thousands in recent years. The UK had at least 23,000 ISIS supporters, while Belgium had 18,000 and France 17,000.

Sweden not only provided financial incentives to assist former ISIS fighters to reintegrate but also gave them new identities.

Meanwhile, a longtime police investigator in Örebro who complained about the steep rise in violent immigrant crime in the area was investigated for hate crimes by authorities.

In February 2017, the head of Örebro’s police serious crimes division Peter Springare caused a political firestorm with a Facebook post claiming that most of the violent crimes he was investigating, including rapes and attacks on police, were caused by immigrants.

“Iraq, Iraq, Turkey, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Somalia, Syria again, Somalia, unknown, unknown country, Sweden,” Springare wrote.

“Half of the suspects, we can’t be sure because they don’t have any valid papers. Which in itself usually means that they’re lying about their nationality and identity. Now we are only talking about Örebro municipality.”

Springare was twice investigated by state prosecutors for racial hatred, but with no resulting charges.

Just a few weeks ago it was reported that Springare had been targeted by authorities with selective leaks to the media.

Earlier this year, authorities in Örebro discovered active anti-tank missiles in a basement of a suspect who smuggled them in from Bosnia, along with automatic weapons and hand grenades.

As reported by the Gatestone Institute, a 2017 Swedish police report identified 61 lawless “no-go” zones that were mainly areas with largely immigrant communities. It also noted recent Swedish media reports that indicate 42 of the 43 rape suspects arrested in 2016 and 2017 were either migrants or children of migrants.
